“The Kolkata Uprising, but more famously known by the locals of old Kolkata as “The Revenge of Shiva,” was a large scale uprising of the citizens of Kolkata, India against the martial regime which overtook the city and surrounding region shortly before the cataclysmic event.
In the old days, Kolkata was a powerhouse of technological innovations in India, paving the way for new reforms in advancing technologies which led to increased A.I. Unit production, drone production, and mass-scale quantum computing all across India. With these innovations, the leading political party in India legislated heavily for the use of robotics within its military, which the Kolkata technology C.E.O.'s agreed too. However, with innovation, comes drawbacks. Due to the country's lack of waste oversight during this period, tons upon tons of toxic metal and electronic waste was dumped near surrounding slums causing major sickness and despair for the city's poorer residents. Many of the workers who once found employment, were now phased out by the rapid roll out of automated machines.
This all came to a head in late 2045, when a massive mob of armed citizens stormed hundreds of robotic facilities across Kolkata, causing a rapid military response. Standoffs between citizens and the military occurred for months and months, eventually leading to the total destruction of the city. As numbers dwindled on both sides, battles were fought over mere inches of rubble. The fighting continued for over four years. Many of the robotic units once under control of the military found use among the refugees as tools and workhorses, allowing Kolkata to be rebuilt to some extent, thought not all used these robotic units for good. Gun runners, drug smugglers, and mercenaries used the robots as well for their own selfish gain.
Currently as of writing this document, parts of Kolkata are under stable government control, with small skirmishes still occurring to this day.
Our research ambassadors have reported sightings of shrines scattered around the city, covered in bones and fresh blood. The locals state that the shrines are menat to please the god Shiva, who they say intervened and caused the great uprising, though this of course is just a local legend.”
